I recently wrote an article for Forbes on the topic of How to Use RPA for Project Management. It has been trending for awhile and for a reason:
Project Management is here to stay but only if Project Managers adapt, leverage and implement the advantages of advanced technologies and spatial computing for more effective ways to manage projects.
I work closely with the Executives of many successful organizations on strategy and transformation initiatives, and advancing the methodologies and strategies for their PMOs always remain as one of the top 10 initiatives. In fact, according to a recent study by Deloitte:
The companies that have succeeded in effectively utilizing RPA, have few common traits in their approach, more specifically around choosing their first project. Here are a few key takeaways from some of the best practices when choosing your first RPA or AI Project (some are pretty common sense and have nothing to do with RPA or AI but yet often overlooked):
- Project Creates Value: PMOs have portfolios of projects, but not all of the initiatives fall into one of these categories – Cost reduction, Revenue generation or increase, Launch new line of business/product or a service
- Project is specific to your technology domain or industry
- Support and Guidance with reputable integration partners: UiPath, Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere are some of the key major players in this space and should be consulted with to a certain extent during the pilot phases
- Allocate a Small Project Team with clear RACI
- Develop a Comprehensive Communication Strategy: concrete schedule with scheduled Steering Committees and issue escalation/risk management.
How is your PMO evolving in adoption and leveraging of advanced technologies to help deliver measurable value through effective Project Management? Please Comment some of your recommendations below.
